The goal of Wingate's ventilator care program is to offer residents who require respiratory therapy an opportunity to either be weaned from the ventilator or to adapt to ventilator dependence. Our physician-directed care team evaluates all residents, providing the care and services necessary to maintain or reduce the need for ventilator support. Wingate's ventilator programs are structured to provide superior quality medical services while offering residents an opportunity to live a normal life. Ventilator residents are encouraged to become active participants in all Wingate activities.
Individualized medical care is monitored and provided by pulmonary specialists, registered nurses, licensed respiratory care practitioners, and an aggressive rehabilitation team consisting of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy specialists. Wingate's staff also provides post acute care services to ventilator-dependent individuals.
Wingate Healthcare's Neuro-Rehabilitation Center at Worcester, and two of Wingate's New York facilities, Fishkill (Dutchess) and Highland (Ulster), offer ventilator care. Their Specialized Ventilator Units are equipped with vacuum and compressed air, and portable ventilators that allow residents mobility. These units, designed with the resident's comfort in mind, feature bright, spacious rooms and a centralized nurse's station that affords our nurses direct observation of each resident. Ventilator residents are continually evaluated for discharge potential by our seasoned social work staff.
