Hampden (Mary Lyon) Testimonials

Thank you for the loving care you gave my wife. She was not easy to care for because of her dementia, but everyone there overlooked her agitated moments. I’m sorry you didn’t know her as I did.

Your consideration for the residents is complete from the front office door. You should be, and I’m sure you are, proud of your home.

I’d like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for the care Wingate provided for both my parents over the last nine years. The staff’s dedication and professionalism are unsurpassed. It was always such a comfort to know that my parents were in such capable and caring hands.

Beyond the medical services, it was the little details that meant the most, like taking the time to offer a kind word or share a laugh; or painting mom’s fingernails because you knew she loved to look her best; or listening to one of her stories, despite the fact that you'd undoubtedly heard it a dozen times before. This attention brought quality of life and dignity to both my parents during their last years.

Wingate Healthcare was also so welcoming to me, my wife and our extended family, always treating us like members of its own family and always going the extra mile to accommodate us. When my daughter was married a couple of years ago, we were so touched that the staff turned out to see her arrive in her wedding dress to visit my mother before the Church services and to wish her well with hugs, kisses and congratulations on her wedding day.

We can't thank Wingate enough for everything - their kindness and care blessed all of us.

I’d like to make everyone aware of the outstanding services that are provided at the Mary Lyon Skilled Care Center in Hampden, MA. All too often we find time to write a letter to complain but never seem to find the time to make someone aware of a job "well done." My mother is a resident at Wingate at Hampden, and both my brother and I believe that she is receiving excellent care.

Maryanne Stout and her staff should be commended for their day-to-day efforts in making this facility a "home away from home.” The cleanliness of this facility is only second to the medical services. I am sure you know what the perception is pertaining to nursing home care. During my many visits to see my mother during the last 15 months, I have found that the medical care she receives is second to none.

Maryanne is always available, day or night, and will take time out of her busy schedule to answer your questions. If she does not have the answer, she will get back to you in a timely fashion with the correct answer. She is truly committed to her job, and she is just a ray of hope for everyone associated with Mary Lyon Skilled Care Center. Her staff is always friendly and very professional, a standard that I believe starts at the top and works its way down to the bottom.

It is very comforting to know that my mother is receiving this type of care, and I can honestly say that it is a pleasure walking into Wingate Healthcare knowing that my mother is safe and being cared for with the utmost respect.

Because of Maryanne Stout and her staff, Wingate at Hampden is running like a fine-tuned clock. It is a pleasure to visit my 99-year-old mother and see her in the best possible health. Please take time out of your busy schedule to make everyone aware that they do make a difference and their efforts are greatly appreciated.

Maryanne, I want you to know how much I appreciate the care and concern shown to my mother by you personally and by the many staff members at Mary Lyon.

Your staff shows a high degree of professionalism and friendliness, creating a family-type atmosphere where residents come first. I enjoyed the many and varied family outings, activities and holiday dinners allowing families to socialize and get to know one another. I will truly miss my visits to Wingate at Hampden as well as the friendships that developed.

All of your staff members carry out their responsibilities efficiently and well. You are an excellent leader and role model. I am very grateful for the time you spent personally with my mother and I. The staff supported us during our visits and dropped by the room, but at the same time, they gave us privacy. This was professionalism and caring at work.

Family and friends who visited my mother during her stay at Mary Lyon were impressed by the cordial way in which they were treated, the cleanliness of the facility, and the positive atmosphere throughout the building. They felt welcome and expressed this to me.

The Family Council has great potential and can be an excellent vehicle for education on many issues of the elderly. The program at last November's meeting on Alzheimer's care is a good example.

Thank you, Wingate at Hampden staff, for making my mother's stay as comfortable as possible. All too often, we think of negative thoughts when speaking of nursing homes, and no one wants to think that this type of facility is for them. However, after seeing the care and respect given to my mother by the Wingate staff, I now have pleasant thoughts of knowing that my mother was in good hands.

On every visit to my mother, I was always greeted with positive comments about her day and/or week in dealing with her dementia. I honestly cannot think of one negative thought with any staff member.

I could go on and speak about numerous situations with different staff members that brought comfort to my brother and I on the dementia care that my mother received, but I would just like to once again say thank you for all of your efforts. Please let your entire staff know that they made a difference in our lives and their efforts are greatly appreciated. I will truly miss my visits to this well-run facility. The staff will all be in our prayers and thoughts throughout the years to come.

We would also like to have the staff take time out of their busy schedules and have a pizza party on my mother. Please enjoy this gift certificate to the Pizza Makers.

Thank you, Wingate, for the quality of care given to our mother. The caring, love, and understanding by everyone will be remembered with heartfelt thanks. Everyone that we came in contact with made a point to ease not only our mother’s suffering but also ours. The advice, hugs, and shoulders to cry on will not be forgotten.

You all made a very sad and stressful time in our lives more bearable. Everyone’s truly a dedicated, loving healthcare professional. We will keep you all in our prayers and never forget the love you gave to our mother during her time at Wingate at Hampden.

The Thornton Unit at Wingate at Hampden allowed my dad to have three more years of life, and they were all wonderful. I don’t want to get started with names because I’m sure I would leave one or two our since there have been so many who have came in contact with dad.

It was so very difficult for me to visit him and not have him know who I was. I wish you all could know the man he was. He loved children, corny jokes, and life. He was a complete optimist and a dear gentleman. He never raised his voice, he never showed anger, and he always found something good about every person he met.

I enjoyed the stories from the staff when he was in his bossy stage, sitting in his chair, making sure the staff was handling their duties correctly! When did he earn his degree?!

He was such a beautiful father. There are no words to thank all of you for the time, care, thoughtfulness, encouragement, and love you gave to dad. He was everything to us. We trusted you with him, and you exceeded our expectations. I brag about you all the time!

His last few days were difficult, and again, you were all there for dad as well as for all of us. I’m so glad he opened those baby blue eyes for us and squeezed our hands. Thank you from all of us.
